Chattisgarh,India wants to Promote Medical Tourism

Chhattisgarh Tourism Board is all set to boost medical tourism in the State and will focus to bring awareness among the masses about prevalent medical facilities in the State. The State has huge scope of medical tourism as there are expert and trained doctors here.
Recently, during a workshop organised by CTB, some well-known doctors laid emphasis on promotion of medical tourism, instigating a dialogue with the stakeholders for formulating a detailed plan to draw attention of domestic and international tourists to the State.
Talking to The Hitavada, Dr Sunil Khemkha (Shri Narayan Hospital) said that to give better face lift to medical tourism focus should be on opening of the ‘distance clinics’ in various countries including the third world countries to make the people aware about medical facilities in Chhattisgrah. He said that Medical tourism (also called medical travel, health tourism or global healthcare) is a term initially coined by travel agencies and the mass media to describe the rapidly-growing practice of traveling across international borders to obtain health care. In other words ‘Medical tourism’ refers to traveling to another country for medical care.
He further said that Chhattisgarh State Tourism Board to give fillip to medical tourism state should develop international connectivity, high quality medical institutions and open their centers in countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Besides this tourism department should also promote herbal gardens at all the tourism places in the State.
Similarly views were expressed by Kapil Utpal (Assistant Corporate Head) Apollo BSR Hospital, Bhilai but laid his emphasis that to develop medical tourism in state need to focus on quality treatment and more P G Colleges so that specialist doctors are available. There have been many good initiatives like AIMS, two medical colleges in Bhilai and Raipur but still we have a long way to go, added Kapil Utpal.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh State Tourism Board Head of Communications and Public relation, Shubhda Chaturvedi said that recently concluded workshop on the ‘Medical Tourism’ has given new dimension to the department to work in promoting the initiative in state and image building of medical institutions.
The Department is giving serious thoughts are been given to bring awareness among the masses through regularly organising public rallies and seminar at all district headquarters. She further said that with a view to tap the opportunities in Medical /Health Tourism and to combine it up with tourism of the state, Chhattisgarh Tourism Board (CTB) organised a workshop on medical tourism recently.
CTB invited reputed medical institutions and practitioners, Hoteliers Association of Chhattisgarh and its members, Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI), CG Chapter and its members, Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) and its members, Chhattisgarh’s Medicinal Plant Board.
